The Union River: Evidence and History

The Union River: Evidence and History In-Person

What things can the river that runs through the heart of downtown Ellsworth tell us about the people who lived and worked along its banks? What evidence does the bank of the Union River retain about the mill workers and diverse people whose lives depended upon the business generated by the river? What can we learn from a closer look at the River’s bank?

This program will start with a screening of a video about the history of the Union River by Bill Fogle, vice president of the Ellsworth Historical Society in the library's Riverview Room and 1 PM and will continue with a walk along the Union River led by Ellsworth Historical Society president Jen Sala. She has lived beside the Union River for some years and explored it while growing up in Ellsworth. She's adept at reading the signs of centuries gone by on the river.
