What It’s Like to Be a Home Caregiver: Exploring Maine’s New Certification Pathways In-Person
The State of Maine has implemented new certification requirements for home care workers, creating a clearer path to becoming a Personal Support Specialist (PSS). These changes add credibility and structure to caregiving as a professional field—opening new doors for those considering a career change or reentering the workforce.
The program focuses on:
- An overview of what it means to be a caregiver in home care
- The new PSS certification and training requirements
- “A Day in the Life” of a caregiver, including real-life stories
- Benefits of the profession, including flexible schedules, meaningful work, and opportunities for advancement
The presentation would be led by experienced staff from Home Instead, with time for Q&A. We aim to inform, inspire, and support community members who may be exploring new career options or simply want to understand more about this important field.
