YOU CHOSE: THE LAST SEASON! (See below for more details)

The Last Season is a 2014 documentary that follows matsutake fungi hunters in Oregon. A Golden Gate Award Winner at the San Francisco International Film Festival and nominee for a prestigious Independent Spirit Award, The Last Season is an intimate, heart-warming story of the power of friendship and love amongst the travails of life (directed by Sara Dosa, 2014, '78, Not Rated, English)

About The Last Season:
Amid the bustling world of Central Oregon’s wild mushroom hunting camps, the lives of two former soldiers intersect. Roger, a 75 year-old sniper with the US Special Forces in Vietnam, and Kouy, a 46 year-old platoon leader of Cambodia’s Khmer Freedom Fighters who battled the Khmer Rouge, come together each fall to hunt the elusive matsutake mushroom, a rare mushroom prized in Japanese culture and cuisine. However, the pair discover more than just mushrooms in the woods: they find a new life, and livelihood; and, a means to slowly heal the scarring wounds of war. Told over the course of one matsutake mushroom season, THE LAST SEASON is a journey into the woods, into the memory of war and survival, telling a story of family from an unexpected place. www.thelastseasondoc.com

Know Your Mushrooms (2009) follows uber myco visionaries Gary Lincoff and Larry Evans (two of the more expert and unforgettably mercurial characters in the community) as they lead us on a hunt for the wild mushroom and the deeper cultural experiences attached to the mysterious fungi.
The world of fungi and their integral relationship with the health of the planet have only recently been appreciated. The oldest and largest living organisms recorded on Earth are both fungi. And their use by a new, maverick breed of scientists and thinkers has proven vital in the cleansing of sites despoiled by toxins and as a “clean” pesticide among many other environmentally-friendly applications. (directed by Ron Mann, 2008, '75, Not Rated, English)
