Join us at the Ellsworth Public Library for a special lecture with acclaimed Maine sculptor Celeste Roberge. A Biddeford native and Professor Emerita at the University of Florida, Roberge is widely known for her innovative use of natural materials, such as seaweed and stone, to explore themes of nature, geology, and mythology.

Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and she continues to draw inspiration from Maine’s coastal landscape. Roberge’s lecture The Matter of Stacks will reveal the progression from her STACKS series of sculptures to the creation of the functional sculpture Chaise Gabion, a gridded stainless steel chaise lounge designed and fabricated using new technologies yet filled with ancient Maine quarry rocks deposited by the receding glaciers that created much of the coastline of Maine.

This program offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artist about her creative process and the role of public art in shaping community spaces. As part of a new year-long public art initiative at the Ellsworth Public Library, Celeste Roberge’s sculpture is featured among the first installations on the library lawn.
