Join Hancock County Genealogical Society for a special presentation with author Ron Romano. During this presentation, attendees will learn the following to help further their genealogical research:
- Burial places -- “burying grounds” vs. “graveyards” vs. “cemeteries”
- Colonial burial practices — Orientation of graves, head & foot stones, grave depth, etc
- Gravestones basics — Different types of materials found, and when they were in use.
- Symbolism — Some basics about how symbols reflect occupation, affiliations, religion, and even length of the person’s life.
- Inscriptions/Epitaphs — Examples of how the words inscribed on a stone help tell a person’s story.

The Hancock County Genealogical Society meetings are free and open to the public every 2nd Saturday of the month at 10 AM.
